Education development continues
A few years ago, Qatar embarked on a mission to create a modern and world-class education system - Education for a New Era - that provides the best facilities and internationally benchmarked curriculum standards that enables the students to compete in a global arena. Independent schools opened, pioneering a new model of schooling in Qatari society, one that provides more autonomy to educators and more engaging instruction for students, and professional development for teachers and school leaders to ensure quality in pedagogic practice.

The State of Qatar remains committed to the goal of creating a world-class education system that reflects Qatar’s own values, beliefs, and culture. Recently the Supreme Education Council (SEC) announced the transformation of all 77 Ministry of Education schools to adopt the independent school system. The new schools referred to as semi-independent schools offer similar approaches in terms of curriculum and teaching and learning practices to the already established independent schools. They will also adhere to the four existing principles of Education for a New Era – Autonomy, Choice, Variety and accountability.
