The SEC and QCB to establish School of Commerce


Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud and Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani today signed an operating agreement to establish an Independent School of Commerce. The School will provide business and financial sector training as part of an educational curriculum that is dedicated to grooming candidates to take on purposeful roles in the country’s financial sector.

New director for the Independent Schools Office

His Excellency Mr. Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Education has appointed Ms. Haya Jehan Al Kuwari, as director of the Independent Schools Office at the Education Institute.

New admissions policy to ease registration process

The Education Institute Assistant Director, Khalid Al-Harqan has issued a circular to all independent schools' operators specifying the admissions policy in the different key stage levels in the independent schools. This move is aligned to the Supreme Education Council’s efforts to regulate the admissions and registration in schools.

All state schools to be converted to independent status in 2010/2011

The Supreme Education Council announced the names of operators for the Cohort VII independent schools, thus concluding the final stage in the education development process - Education for A New Era - initiated by the State of Qatar’s in 2002. There are currently 102 schools operating independently. This number will reach 167 with the final addition of 65 schools from cohort VII.
