An official source at the Higher Education Institute (HEI) of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) revealed that eight Russell group universities have been selected for study in the foundation year. This decision came to assist students familiarize themselves with the new strict education system in the UK and facilitate their transition to join the undergraduate (bachelors) programs. The decision came after an in-depth research conducted by the Higher Education Institute about the different foundation programs.

The selection of the universities was based on the following criteria:

  • Program emphasis on fields of study and not only on strengthening English language skills
  • The foundation year is administered and provided by the university itself
  • The program aims to prepare the students for different fields
  • The provision of appropriate admission requirements that prepares the students for entry to the Bachelor degree program
  • Entry into these universities to complete the foundation can guarantee them acceptance for the Bachelor degree program at any other British university
  • Being research oriented universities they are concerned about the quality of their education.

The eight universities where students are entitled scholarships on foundation year include University College of London, Imperial College of London, University of Birmingham, University of Manchester, University of Southampton, University of Nottingham, Cardiff University and University of Leeds.

The foundation year aims to bridge the gap in qualifications of foreign students who attained general secondary certificates outside of Britain and the requirements needed to join the undergraduate program in Britain

The decision of the SEC to approve scholarships for foundation year in eight UK based universities comes to provide the best educational opportunities for students who wish to study in accredited universities abroad.
