The Education Institute has announced that a maximum number of four native English speaking teachers can be recruited to teach the English language, Mathematics and Science at the Independent schools.

The Education Institute is committed to the reform efforts and such a move would provide qualified teacher to ensure that the students master the English language because of its positive effect on learning other subjects taught in English. The Education Institute’s conditions are as follows:

  • English should be the teacher’s first language
  • Masters degree
  • At least five years experience in the specific field
  • Ability to conduct training and professional development for teachers

Teachers are expected to:

  • Promote education, especially Scientific English for Science and Math for both teachers and students
  • Set plans to support students inside school or outside the school.
  • Develop teaching methods and improving the implementation of the curriculum standards.

The Education Institute insisted on orientating the teachers to Qatari culture, values and environment before commencing their jobs. The decision made it very clear that the schools should provide training to the teachers on the national curriculum set by the Supreme Education Council before the coming school year.

The Education Institute reassured that this process would not affect the Qatarization process in the Independent schools. Professional development for Qatari teachers before and after recruitment is still a major focus. Last month, the Supreme Education Council announced the commencement of a one-year professional training program for teachers at Qatar University aimed at equipping teachers with sufficient skills to join the Independent schools. The program is designed for teachers from the Ministry of Education schools.
