Doha, Qatar – September 19, 2008: In an exceptional move aimed at helping cope with the registration issues at the Independent schools, the Education Institute has announced the increase of the number of students in each classroom in grades 1 to 12 to twenty-six. This step will allow more children to attend the student-centred classrooms which provide lively discussions, hands-on learning, nurture critical thinking and problem solving, team building and research skills which are the hallmarks of the Independent schools.

An increased interest in the Independent schools has led to shortage of space. Due to the high demand for seats, Sabah Al Haidoos, the director of the Education Institute issued a memo to all Independent school operators requesting them to increase the class size from 25 students to 26 for the current academic year to help accommodate all citizens.

The Education Institute emphasizes the need for all Independent schools to follow the registration admissions procedures and policies set by the Institute.

Qatar has created a world-class system of curriculum standards, student assessments, and school surveys, along with an advanced technical infrastructure to report and analyze school data. September 2008 saw the opening of 88 Independent schools, pioneering a new model of schooling in Qatari society, one that provides more autonomy to educators and more engaging instruction for students.
