UAE-Qatar exchange views in the advising and career development field
A high level educational delegation from United Arab Emirates (UAE) made a two-day visit to the Advising and Career Development Centre in the Higher Education Institute of the Supreme Education Council to learn more about the developments in the advising and career development field.

The UAE delegation comprising Mrs. Keniz Mohammed Abdulla Al Abdulli, director of the Student Advising and Development Office and Mrs. Yasmina Abdulla Al-Mazeem, head of the Advising Department at the Ministry of Education in the UAE discussed areas of cooperation in the advising field, besides exchanging views, ideas and best practices aimed at enhancing relations between the two countries.

“Qatar has achieved remarkable strides in education reform,” said Fawzia Al Naama, director of the Advising and Career Development Center (ACC). “Our advanced knowledge in the advising and development field and the best practices we apply has attracted the attention of many countries in the region and specifically the GCC and we are willing to share our exchange regarding the same.”

Mrs. Salwa Saleh Atiyyah, consultant at Advising and Career Development Centre gave a presentation on the role and responsibilities of the Higher Education Institute, its different offices and units, and specifically the importance of advising and career development in today’s world.

On the UAE part, Mrs. Al Abdulli talked about the main aspects of Emirates’ education system, the role and function of Ministry of Education, the Abu Dhabi Education Council, and the Dubai Knowledge Authority. She also shed light on the “Future Schools,” a model of education reform in the Emirates in which 50 schools from different stages of schooling have been selected from all over the country to begin using new learning and teaching approaches. The schools have been provided with the necessary facilities, equipment and human resources to assist in the process.

The delegation met with Mr. Mohammed Saleh Al Mannai, acting director of Higher Education Institute who expressed enthusiasm at assisting the UAE delegation learn more about the Qatari initiative.

The Advising and Career Development Centre also organized an intensive program for the visiting delegation which included visits to the Education City, ASPIRE, Omar bin Al Khattab Independent Secondary School, Al Bayan Educational Complex for Girls – Secondary, as well as meetings with some educators to have first hand experience on the application of advising and career development tools.

The Advising and Career Development Centre of the Higher Education Institute is responsible for providing comprehensive advising & career counselling services that will help students and prospective graduates make educational and career choices based on their interests, abilities, values as well as the needs of the labour market
