160 researchers attend the second Action Research Conference

More than one hundred researchers from various organizations presented findings of their work at the one-day Second Annual Action Research Conference organized by the College of Education at Qatar University (QU) in collaboration with the Education Institute of the Supreme Education Council (SEC).

Professor Sheikha Al Misnad, president, Qatar University, Prof. Hessa Sadiq, dean, Faculty of Education and Mr. Ibrahim Al Mannai, director, Curriculum Standards Office, Education Institute attended the inauguration of the conference entitled “Reflective Practice.”

In her welcome remarks, Prof. Sadiq hailed the collaboration between the two institutions in organizing the second successful conference. “The strong partnership between our organizations is a clear indication of our understanding of having a common objective towards education reform that is based on scientific learning.”

“Research is considered one of the pillars of progress and it is an important indicator of any country’s development,” said Al Mannai. “Results that are taken from research are also a significant tool in developing teaching methods, strategies and techniques.”

The keynote speaker, Dr. Khalid Ali Al Quradaghi of Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), outlined the various initiatives of QNRF in promoting the culture of research in Qatar. Dr. Al Quradaghi also revealed the financial support QNRF extends under its current programmes.

The conference discussed 72 papers by 160 researchers. The event allowed attendees to exchange ideas on actual research and contribute to improvement of education and teacher development to meet the needs of the society. It also aimed at celebrating teachers-researchers and improving teachers’ professional performance through practice and action research, and encouraging decision making based on data and information. The event included presentations of the researches given by teachers and students, along with a textbook and teachers’ learning resources fair.
