The Higher Education Institute (HEI) of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) has announced a list of 675 names of the best universities and colleges from around the world including the Education City universities. The list, which is updated every two years selects the best universities for scholarship recipients based on international ranking criteria to achieve the best academic and research outputs and allows parents to choose the best option for their children.

Among them, 349 universities offering 164 different disciplines are based in the United States while 92 universities offering 49 disciplines are based in Great Britain. The remaining 234 universities are based Asia (Pacific), Africa, Europe, Canada, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand. A panel comprising educational experts from Qatar Foundation and other Educational Consultants took part in the selection process of the various universities and fields of study. search an universities

On the same note, the HEI has announced two new programs – the Hamad bin Khalifa and the Tamim bin Hamad Grants Programs - which offer scholarships to high achieving students to 30 select universities. The Hamad bin Khalifa Grants Program offers scholarships to students to 10 of the best universities in the world while the Tamim bin Hamad Grants Program offers scholarships to 20 universities for Bachelor degrees or its equivalent as well as for Post graduate studies (Masters and PhD).

The main characteristics of these grants include students obtaining annual financial rewards on condition that they successfully complete each academic year in post secondary phase, or complete the Master or Doctorate study successfully. In addition, the programs also allow successful students to meet with HH the Emir and HH the Hair Apparent.

HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Secretary General of SEC said that the release of the new universities list aims aiming at promoting opportunities for excellence, increasing choices for students and helps to ensure that higher education outcomes will reach the highest quality level. The high level of the universities selected will enable students to compete successfully and hence meet the Qatari labor market needs in conformity with Qatar vision 2030 which highly depends on the education system to achieve its goals.

The HEI has urged prospective students and their parents to examine the list thoroughly to ensure the right discipline is selected to suit the individual needs of the students. The HEI will provide the necessary advising and counseling guidance to students to help them identify their abilities, interests, values as well as the job market and make decisions based on the needs of the Qatari labor market.
